Romance: Reading in bed together makes sparks fly, according to a survey, which claimed seven in 10 men read to their partners. (Posed by models)
Forget the scented candles and silky lingerie. A bedtime story is the perfect aphrodisiac, it seems.
Seven in ten men regularly read to their wives and girlfriends to help them relax before going to sleep, a study found.
And two in three women say they are more affectionate to a partner who reads aloud in bed.
Romantic classics, travel guides and restaurant reviews are apparently bedtime favourites with the ladies.
Scottish men, meanwhile, are most keen to use the power of words to improve their relationships.
An impressive 81per cent say they regularly read to the women in their lives, whereas only 64per cent in the South-West of England do so.
Behavioural expert Judi James said: 'The lack of brain-effort required to produce a response is in itself relaxing, while the softer and more intimate tones used while reading out loud is both seductive and relaxing.'
Men who read to a partner will 'improve the quality time they have', she added.
The survey of 1,000 people was carried out by coffee brand Carte Noire
