Happy holiday: Prince Andrew grins as he chats to a mystery friend, wearing hot pants and a cut away swimsuit, who joined him on his yacht
His playful grin, bare chest and evident delight as he laps up the sun are a world away from the stuffy family holiday of last week.
And no wonder, for Prince Andrew’s stunning companion on holiday in Sardinia would put a smile on any man’s face.
While 1,000-piece jigsaws were required to while away the time with the Queen and the rest of the royals on their 11-day Scottish tour, the Duke of York needed nothing more than his beautiful friend and a bottle of sunscreen to keep him happy on a luxury superyacht in the Mediterranean.
All at sea: The pair smile on the deck of the boat but is Andrew comparing figures with his friend?
The mystery brunette is understood to be the wife of another passenger on the 154ft Yalla, which sleeps ten people plus seven crew and is believed to have been chartered by millionaire friends of the 50-year-old Duke.
The pair hit it off on the trip and were spotted larking around on deck on Wednesday.
Yesterday afternoon they were together again, as the twentysomething woman came to bid a friendly farewell to Andrew before leaving the resort, onlookers said.
Wearing a pastel pink sleeveless minidress with denim hot pants, she chatted to Andrew at the exclusive Hotel Cala di Volpe in Porto Cervo, which has this year hosted Abbey Clancy, Peter Crouch and Janet Jackson.
The Duke looked laid-back and happy - a marked departure from Monday, when he stepped off the Hebridean Princess in Caithness wearing a formal suit, a tie and a decidedly glum expression.
On Wednesday, the woman - dressed in a gold-hemmed cut-out swimsuit and white hot pants - rubbed suntan lotion into Prince Andrew’s back.
Hand on hip, she laughed as she allowed her hand to be kissed by the fourth in line to the throne. Andrew then took off his blue T-shirt after playfully draping it over his head.
Helping hand: The Duke has sun cream applied
But his friend’s enviable figure brought the Duke’s more portly form into sharp focus –despite his concerted effort to keep in shape before reaching his 50-year milestone in February this year.
A royal aide said: ‘She is the wife of another man on board, is staying with the family of guests and has categorically no link to the Duke.’
Limbering up: The Prince appears to be practising his diving moves for a swim while his glamorous friend snacks on grapes
The laid-back images come after police confirmed that three intruders drove a Mitsubishi Shogun into Windsor Great Park, home to Royal Lodge where the Duke, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson and their daughters Beatrice, 21, and Eugenie, 20, live.
They allegedly drove around the grounds of the Berkshire estate shortly after 5am on Monday, passing the Royal Chapel of All Saints where the Queen often worships.
Larking about: The pair share a joke as the yacht sails the Mediterranean
Cover up: The Prince playfully pulls his top over his head
But they sped off empty-handed along little-known back roads after realising they had been caught on CCTV, it was claimed.
The Duke and his daughters were in Scotland and the Duchess of York was on holiday in Spain, meaning there were allegedly no police officers on duty.
Initial reports that the men wore balaclavas and demolished a gate to gain access were denied by police.
Back on shore: The pair changed into casual clothes to join some other friends for lunch...
...where the prince is surrounded by women...
...before a fond farewell and a kiss on the cheek all round
A 43-year-old man from Colnbrook, Slough, was arrested at his home on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft yesterday morning, Thames Valley Police said.
A police source said: ‘They could have been burglars who didn’t realise they were breaking into a royal home. Or they could have been terrorists bent on mayhem.
‘This incident highlights how easy it would be for someone to get in and plant a bomb or to hide. A major investigation is under way.’
Prince Andrew has resisted proposed cutbacks to royal security, particularly for his daughters.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
