Controversy: Sharon Osbourne says Cheryl Cole won't make it in America

She's no stranger to controversy and is always coming out with outlandish comments which cause a stir.

And now Sharon Osbourne has come forward to say that Cheryl Cole has no chance of making it in America when she goes over next year for the American version of The X Factor.

Former X Factor judge Sharon claims that while Cheryl is popular in the UK, her success will be eclipsed by that of Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, who is also tipped for the US panel.

She told Now magazine: 'Cheryl’s perfect for England - she’s the nation’s sweetheart and they absolutely love her.

'But over here it’s Nicole’s town. You have to think of the audience and most of them would never have heard of Girls Aloud.

'Nicole’s great TV, has a huge following here in the States and people absolutely love her. Plus she’s beautiful and talented.'

New role: Cheryl has apparently been offered £3million for a role on the American version of The X Factor

Nicole is a favourite to join the panel of the American show after proving popular when she joined the judges during the audition stages of the programme earlier this year.

And while Sharon says she believes Cheryl is making the right decision to move to Los Angeles, she said she will find it difficult finding the same success Stateside.

She added: 'It takes a long time to make it in the States because it’s so huge. She couldn’t just come over here and do a show then pootle off.'

It was revealed earlier this month that Cheryl had taken on the US X Factor role in a deal worth up to £3million.

She was officially offered the job after executives from U.S. television network Fox flew in to watch the X Factor - and the judge - in action.

X Factor mogul Cowell, 51, la recently revealed that he planned to announce the judges for the U.S. version in December.

The multi-millionaire said: ‘I’m going to make an announcement within three or four weeks, which is going to tell everyone everything. There will be some surprises.’

He then revealed: ‘OK, one of the judges has quite long hair.'

Earlier this year, Cole herself admitted American audiences might not 'get her'.

She said during the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge: 'They don't know me out there and I've got this weird accent. I love the thought of it and would love to do it.'
