Taking the weight off: Alicia Keys has a sit down on stage during a performance at the 2010 BET Awards on June 27th in Los Angeles

Alicia Keys took a nasty fall on stage last weekend at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.

The pregnant R&B singer was performing her hit song, Love is Blind, when she stumbled backwards and fell, landing on her rear end.

Thankfully though only Keys' ego was bruised, as she got up again quickly and carried on with her performance.

There were gasps in the audience and one eyewitness blamed the singer's four inch heels for the mishap, and commented that she looked unsteady on her feet even as she walked on stage.

Keys performed at the festival along with LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson and Estelle.

Following the show Keys hopped on a plane and flew to New York City to attend the wedding of her mother-in-law-to-be.

Keys announced her pregnancy and engagement in May. She is engaged to hip hop producer Swizz Beatz, they are set to get married before the end of the year.

The 29-year-old is a seasoned performer. At the age of seven she started performing classical music on the piano.

Keys' debut album, Songs In A Minor sold over 12million copies worldwide and earned her five Grammy Awards in 2002, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for Fallin'.

Keys and Beatz, whose real name is Kaseem Dean, have been dating since 2008.

Beatz is currently finalizing his divorce from his first wife of four years, Mishonda Tifrere, who is also the mother of one of his two children.

Last month Keys confirmed on Good Morning America that she is five months pregnant and due in November.
