Regular listeners of Chris Evans' breakfast show have warmed to his holiday replacement Richard Allison, right, who has been described as 'witty'
His excitable style has not exactly proved a resounding success with the breakfast listeners he inherited from Sir Terry Wogan.
Now some of them are telling Chris Evans they much prefer his less famous holiday stand-in.
Richard Allinson has taken over Evans's breakfast slot on Radio 2 this week after Evans decided to have a holiday only six weeks after replacing Sir Terry.
The reaction Allinson is getting on BBC internet message boards may worry Evans during his week off.
Popular presenter Terry Wogan signed off in December after 27 years hosting his breakfast show
'Just what mornings need - great music, witty chat and he can hold the show without the public phoning in. Any chance BBC that he can remain on the morning slot?'
Listeners said Allinson provided 'radio for adults' while others urged Evans to go on leave more often.
Allinson, 51, is a regular holiday standin for daytime disc jockeys on Radio 2 and presents his own weekend show.
Evans, 43, has already raised eyebrows by taking leave so soon after replacing Sir Terry.
Radio 2 insisted it was a planned holiday, but before he went away Evans surprised listeners by saying: 'We are having a think. We are re-grouping.'
He is understood to be at home this week, working on another book about his life.
Last month, it was revealed that Sir Terry, 71, ended his Radio 2 breakfast show with 8.1million listeners per week, a record number.
The BBC has received more than 300 formal complaints from disgruntled fans unhappy with Evans's noisy style and the quality of his show.
A Radio 2 spokesman said: 'We're extremely happy with Chris's breakfast show and are pleased that listeners are enjoying Richard Allinson while he sits in for Chris this week.'
