World goes Gaga: Singer makes her wax debut... in eight places at once

By RACHEL QUIGLEY

Waxing clever: the eight different Lady Gaga waxworks, including this one in Hong Kong, show off her different looks

Never one to do things by halves, Lady Gaga made her waxwork debut yesterday – in eight different costumes and eight different places.

The 24-year-old singer became the new star attraction at Madame Tussauds branches in London, New York, Las Vegas, Hollywood, Amsterdam, Berlin, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Her British waxwork depicts her as she appeared on Jonathan Ross’s talk show in March, in midnight-blue Armani outfit topped off with a Philip Treacy hat in the shape of a telephone.

In the Amsterdam version, she wears a towering purple hairpiece over waist-length platinum locks with nude Maison Martin Margiela bodysuit and white blazer while Hong Kong unveiled a Harlequin-inspired look with oversized black ruff and sleek, super-straight platinum hair.

Gaga - real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - has become so iconic since she first exploded on to the pop world less than three years ago that the unveiling of her waxwork - each showcasing a different look from her wacky wardrobe - was the most ambitious and closely guarded launch in the museum's history.

The London waxwork was approved by the singer's fans. 'I hoped it would be the Telephone outfit,' said American student Melissa Ducheny.

Tussauds general manager Edward Fuller said: 'The demand to include Lady Gaga has been overwhelming and we are more than happy to oblige.

'It’s been quite a challenge to keep details of eight figure launches top secret but the fans certainly seem to have enjoyed the intrigue.

'We are delighted to have been able to work with Philip Treacy to ensure the look is spot on and look forward to seeing the other styles at our sister attractions as they go public across the day.”

In Berlin, she wore a black satin body suit, leather belt and Bruno Pieters silk jacket with thigh-high lace up boots and the often emulated Minnie Mouse bow hair-do which the popstar wore at the Hakkasan restaurant in London in April 2009.

Lightning bolt: the waxwork in Shanghai featured eccentric eye make-up previously worn by the singer

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong unveiled a Harlequin-inspired look complete with oversized black neck ruff and sleek, super straight platinum hair which the 24-year-old wore at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul, South Korea.

Other looks were her famous hair hat - when the singer's own locks were splayed out into a huge sun hat - which she first wore at Las Vegas Electronics Show.

The wired wing dress complete with lightning eye make-up and PVC thigh boots which she modelled on the Wetten Dass...? game show in Germany last year have also been included.
